Busan Film Commission

secures Korea’s largest backlot site

- Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Film Commission and Korea Water Resources Corporation’s Busan Eco-Delta City Project Office sign MOU

- New 253,000 outdoor film set site secured with completed land development and infrastructure, including roads

- Expectation for boosting Busan’s competitive edge in location attraction

□ Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor PARK Heong-joon), Busan Film Commission (CEO KANG Sungkyu), and Busan Eco-Delta City Project Office of Korea Water Resources Corporation (Busan EDC) (General Director LEE Sangjong), signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, February 22, to utilize a backlot site.

□ Based on this agreement, the three organizations will work together to attract film and drama productions that seek to create outdoor sets within the Busan EDC project site. They will also strive to provide smooth filming support and engage in cooperative promotional efforts.

□ The site currently under consideration for the backlot is located in the Phase 1 section (Myungji-dong) of the Busan EDC project, where land development, infrastructure, and roads have been completed. This area is part of the Digital Logistics Pilot Zone and an Industrial Complex, with a total area of approximately 253,000.

□ Busan Film Commission plans to continue using unsold land in Busan EDC as backlot sites for outdoor filming set in the future.

○ Busan Film Commission will actively respond to the demand for backlot sites and enhance its competitiveness in location attraction for large-scale domestic and international contents, based on this agreement.

○ When the Busan EDC project site is used as a filming location for movies and dramas, it is expected to contribute directly and indirectly to the external promotion of Busan EDC.

□ Last year, 141 films and TV series were filmed in Busan, which is considered the top location for filming in South Korea. Among them were the Apple TV+ series ‘Pachinko’ and films such as ‘Decision to Leave’ and ‘Hunt’, all of which were shot in Busan.
